“Implementing Automatic Toll Collection System at 5 Major Airports in Vietnam to Reduce Traffic Congestion”

Amid efforts to modernize transportation infrastructure and improve passenger experience, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has announced plans to deploy automatic toll collection systems at five busy airports. the most popular airports in the country, including Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Da Nang, Phu Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports.

Converting the Toll Collection System for Cars Entering and Exiting the Airport

On November 28, ACV approved the investment report and contractor selection plan for this important project. After selecting a contractor and signing a contract within the year, the ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) automatic toll collection equipment system will be installed within 180 days.

It is expected that ACV will invest more than 214 billion VND to modernize and synchronize the toll collection system at airports, to reduce traffic congestion at entrances and improve service quality for passengers.

Benefits Of ETC System

The ETC system at the airport is designed to be integrated, allowing the use of road ETC cards to pass through the airport toll lane without the need for additional cards or complicated procedures. This brings convenience to drivers and reduces waiting time, especially in traffic jams or crowded events such as holidays.

Guidance on Electronic Tolling Expansion Targets

Currently, nearly 5 million cars (accounting for 96%) have integrated ETC cards and opened non-stop toll collection accounts across the country. The Vietnam Ministry of Transport (MOT) is also considering applying electronic toll collection for many new services such as seaport fees, parking, insurance, registration…

Reduce Congestion and Improve Passenger Experience

Every day, Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat Airports receive from 16,000 to 20,000 vehicles passing through toll stations. Currently, the process of collecting tolls for cars entering and leaving the airport is still manual, creating a situation where vehicles stop in front of toll stations to get cards and pay cash at the exit gate, leading to congestion, especially at airports. during peak times and holiday periods.

With the implementation of the automatic toll collection system, ACV aims to reduce congestion and improve passenger experience, while creating favorable conditions for drivers through a modern and flexible toll collection process. This not only brings immediate benefits but also makes an important contribution to the sustainable development of the national transportation system.
